Earth Tones

           

Laid out before my eyes
    the earth....
          a cosmic egg
              splendid in browns,
                      earthy tones
              flowing
      from one into the other.
Fluffy rainbow clouds
     lacy shadows
           cast across the sands
                giant birds
          taking wing.
      Explosions of blue
stark
     against a grainy
            landscape
                scarred by man
           umbilical cords
       severed.
White capped
     mountains poke holes
            through the mist
               creating a horizon
          which doesn't exist
      melting skies
into the earth
    fading to nothing.
          Life, only  dots
                     of trees
             lining the rivers,
      streams
creeks
     vanishing...
            before my eyes
                 now ..gone.
